Like Gloversville, this city has more drug violations than you'd expect from their small population, along with DWI and assaults. Johnstown has done a little better at recovering from the economic decline. |

About the area |
Johnstown is just south of Gloversville, which together make up Fulton's "glove cities", named after their prominence in the glovemaking industry. Johnstown is smaller than Gloversville, with less that 10,000 residents, but it is Fulton's county seat and has some of the richest history in all of upstate New York. Johnson Hall (1760) was the home of Sir William Johnson. Sir William also built the Fulton County Courthouse (1772), the oldest in the State and fifth oldest in the country. If New York State has a heartland, it's probably in and around Johnstown. |
