You can still visit the old (inoperational) courthouse, built 1836, but the new one is nice too. This is a fairly quiet county, with the exception of Amsterdam, which has a high level of illegal drug use despite the relatively small population. |

About the area |
Montgomery county is situated along the Mohawk River, and encompasses the towns of St. Johnsville, Minden, Palatine, Canajoharie, Root, Mohawk, Glen, Charlestown, Florida, and the city of Amsterdam. It\'s declining economy was hurt by bad flooding in the summer of 2006. Mohawk River runs through the county east-west. Some beautiful historic sites, including Guy Park, Fort Johnson, and Fort Klock. |
