About the area
Liverpool Village has a population of about 2,500 and is located in the Town of Salina to the north of Syracuse. It is only aproximately 1 square mile, but occupies most of the northeastern bank of Onondaga Lake. The Liverpool Willow Museum commemorates Liverpool weavers, who in the year 1900, produced 360,000 laundry baskets in this village alone—three-quarters of all the laundry baskets sold in the United States. Liverpool was settled in 1794 by salt boilers. Nobody knows for sure, but historians think that the village of Liverpool was probably named after Liverpool, England, where salt was also manufactured.
