Canandaigua is originated from the Iroquois word "Kanandarque", which means "chosen spot", referring to a place people have chosen to settle. The city is located at the northern end of Canandaigua Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. The region boasts to be the largest wine producing region in New York State. It's not too far from Rochester.
