Amtrak has a station in Rensselaer that serves the Capital District and has trains running to NYC and Chicago daily. Both the county and city are named after Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, who was a diamond & pearl merchant and founding member of the Dutch West India Company. He was granted land ownership of the colonial estate Rensselaerwyck, an area that contained most of the counties of Albany, Rensselaer, Greene, Columbia and as far east as Pownal, VT.
Both judges are well respected in the community and known for their experience. |

About the area |
Rensselaer is on the Hudson River, with Albany on the opposite bank of the river. Its former names were Bath-on-Hudson, Greenbush, and East Albany. The tune âYankee Doodleâ is credited to a British surgeon, Richard Shuckburg, who wrote it after watching militia drills at Fort Crailo in Rensselaer. |
