About the area |
The flood plains of Vroman's Land provide the richest, most fertile cornfields in the world. (check the local farmer's markets and roadside stands) helping to earn Schoharie Valley the name "Breadbasket of the Revolution". Formerly Middle Fort, situated between the Upper Fort near Fulton and the Lower Fort in Schoharie, was the birthplace of Corporal James Tanner, an army stenographer, was called to President Lincoln's deathbed, to record his last moments. And for railroad buffs, from 1860 - 1930, the Middleburgh-Schoharie Railroad ran between the two towns daily. It had one car. (Now preserved at the Schoharie Valley Railroad Museum at Depot Lane, Schoharie) |
