**Okay, the commenters (see below) are getting out of control here. And the latest comment, while helpful, shows a startling lack of a sense of humor. So remember, no telling jokes! A good idea in general in most courts in NY.**
Route 30 has long been a major thoroughfare in this area. And the advent of I-88, shortening the commute from the Tri-City Area, has increased that traffic - as well as the traffic and speeding violations. Fasten those seatbelts and watch that speedometer. As for the Schoharie Traffic Court - it's right across the street from the County Court House - You can't miss it. About the area |
The Town of Schoharie is rich in Revolutionary War history, as well as the settlement of the valley by the German Palatine's and the Dutch from what is now the Schenectady/Albany area. The Old Stone Fort - originally the Reformed Dutch Church (1750) became the Lower Fort in 1777 - now houses a museum of Indian artifacts, a 1731 Fire Engine (believed the oldest in the state) and a cannonball still lodged in its northside. Re-enactors come to relive the Revolutionary, as well as the Civil War. Southwest of town was the Battle of the Flockey (German "Die Flache" - The Flats - by which the area is still known, especially by the Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club), and site of the 1st recorded cavalry charge by the U.S. (Continental) Army. From 1860-1930, the Middleburgh-Schoharie Railroad ran regularly between the two towns. It had one car. |
