About the area
Bordered by Mud lake & Little Lake, the Town of Tyrone is made up of Altay, Camp Gordon, Gingerbread, Pine Grove, Tyrone, Wayne & Weston. An early settler was John Young, father of Brigham Young. Squire Teeple kept the 1st hotel in 1805; 1st steamboat on Lake Lamoka was built by L.B. Gibson in 1878; Lamoka Lake offers fishing, boating & kayaking; Waneta-Laoka State Wildlife Management Area includes marsh & open water habitat suitable for birds, fish & other wetland dependant wildlife. Land between the two lakes holds a prehistoric settlement, circa 1300 BCE, a base community for a culture of hunter/fisher/gatherers.
