About the area |
An abundance of arts, music & sport venues are found in Corning, from the LPGA Corning Classic in May; September's Crystal City Jazz Festival; and the annual Arts & Crafts Festival in November at the Corning Community College. "The Southern Gateway to the Finger Lakes Region", originally known as Painted Post, was built by a group of Albany investors, who reasoned that where the proposed railroad and canal met, business would prosper, and renamed the town in 1836 after one of the investors, Albany banker Erastus Corning. Traffic continues to flow through the town of Corning, via I-86, NYS rte 225, 352,414, 415 and the Chemung River |
