It is a wonder that the community maintains a tourist business with its peculiar laws regarding them. There have been several reports of "zealousness" in regards to the village PD and charges of brutality have been claimed in courts on several occasions. |

About the area |
Ocean Beach is located on the western part of Fire Island. Its population multiplies drastically during summer months with tourists. Although it boasts the most bars, boutiques, restaurants, and attractions than other villages on Fire Island to attract the tourists, there are several "restrictive" laws designed to curtail tourist "nuisances". There are heavy restrictions on popular summer activities such as bicycling, frisbees, playing on the beach, radios w/out headphones, and permits needed to barbecue after an inspection of the site. Don't plan a picnic on the beach either; there's no eating or drinking on the beach, and on most of the boardwalks. Rumors suggest that some of the tourists engage in non-traditional sexual practices, but we hope this remains behind closed doors, mostly. |
Hours of Operation |
Saturdays at 10 in the morning. Yes Virginia, there really is a court that meets on a Saturday. Tough after those fun Friday nights. |
Judges |
Hon. William Wexler and Hon. Joseph Russell |
Prosecutors |
The village budget has a line for Village Attorney, but we have not determined the identity of this individual. |
Type Of Cases |
Based on the "nuisance" ordinances set in place, you can expect the court to be inundated with tourists for these eccentric violations during the summer months. |
