District Court has been created in NY State to cover the five western towns of Suffolk County. The District Court handles the local criminal and local civil cases for each of the local jurisdictions it serves. There is a separate district court for each of the 5 western towns of Suffolk County handling civil cases and town ordinance violations and one which covers all five towns for criminal cases. |

About the area |
First District Court is the central court which handles primarily criminal cases generated from the five towns of Babylon, Brookhaven, Huntington, Islip, and Smithtown. This court is located on Carleton Ave (County Rte 17), north of the large white Federal Courthouse, south of Citibank Park and NYIT. Entrance to the building is across from the flagpoles in the main parking lot. Clerks offices are on the 2nd floor. Arraignments are on the ground floor in room D-11. |
