**We're not sure about the street address. Google is confusing - "Justice Court" brings us "Rt 28"; "Directions" brings up a map, showing the justice court on Rt 28, between Old Rt 28 & Kleis Rd. "Shandaken Town Hall" brings up "7209 Rte 28"; "Directions" brings up a different map of Rte 28 - some street names the same, many different or missing. Call for directions. We had mailing city as Allaben but we're informed it's really Shandaken. |

About the area |
Shandaken means "Land of Rapid Waters" (short bathroom breaks?) or "Place of Hemlocks" (Socrates drank here). Don't ask us how it can be two radically different things - that's a Native American thing we hear. Two German families settled in Great Shandaken in 1752 - which later became The Corner, and now Mt Pleasant. Aaron Adams of Pine Hill (and the Old Pine Tavern 1810 - 1815) is best remembered for his great fiddling - & his time in the State Legislature. |
