About the area |
In 1805 the town was established by Jonathan Melvin who bought 500 acres. Here he set-up the town by building a saw mill and grist mill. These mills employed the townspeople and provided income to stay in the area. Obidah Adams moved in and built the Wolcott hotel. This brought tourists to the area to enjoy the accommodations and the lake. The village was established in the 1850s, however. Less than 2000 people live in the village. |
