Even when the Oil City is a symbol on this county, it is not the county seat of Venango County; but it was home to an oil boom in the middle years of the 19th century when natural oil was discovered in its territories. Franklin City home of the Applefest, DeBence Antique Music World, and the Barrow-Civic Theatre, is the county seat of this "big family" of more than 57500 residents, who have as their neighbors Crawford, Warren, Forest, Clarion, Butler, and Mercer Counties.
