Named in honor of St. Augustine of Hippo, this territory of more than 8900 inhabitants is connected with the surrounding lands by four major highways: US Highway 96, State Highway 21, State Highway 103, and State Highway 147. Born in the 1830s, this corner of America has almost 600 square miles of extension framed by Shelby, Sabine, Jasper, Angelina, and Nacogdoches Counties. With a population density of approximately 20 people per square mile, this community is home of two gorgeous areas: Angelina National Forest and Sabine National Forest.
