In the early 1750's, Dinwiddie county was formed from Prince George county and is named for the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 1751 to 1758. The annual Dinwiddie County fair is held in early September at the Virginia Motorsports park in Petersburg. The fair has a carnival, live musical entertainment and events such as the Fast Action Motorsports Entertainment miniature car racing, Fireworks, Petting Zoo and the Hogway Speedway where the porkers can really run. There are variuus activities for young and old such as Mobile Monkey Motion, Trackless Train tours, Mechanical Bull riding, Camel rides and Southside Virginia Pedal Pullers where youngsters can pedal a miniature tractor and pull a load. Don't forget to take in the $H shows and competitions.
