There are many places providing entertainment and the cultural ambiance of the city. Barksdale Theatre in the old and renovated Hanover tavern. A varied selection of plays is presented here each year. The Virginia Repertory group offers productions of musical and dramatic theater at the November, Willow Lawn, Hanover Tavern and Cadence theaters. Dogwood Dell located in Byrd Park, amphitheater seating close to 2,400 and is where the Festival of Arts; a summer-long presentation of the arts featuring art exhibits, concerts, dance and theatre is held. The Firehouse theater which is housed in the former Engine No. 10 firehouse presents contemporary American plays throughout the year, but not in the Summer. The Richmond Ballet is a professional ballet company which presents performances at the Carpenter center and the TheatreVirginia stage in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The Elegba Folklore society not only produces several performances of African dance, music and concerts per year but its cultural center gallery shows fine art, imports and crafts.
