Princeton Municipal Court

There are several good roads here that Princeton residents can use to get around. They include US 19, US 460, SR 20 and SR 104.

Settlers arrived in this area as early as 1775 but suffered from Indian attacks. The first meeting of the county court took place here in the home of one of the landowners. One of the leading citizens of the town donated the land for the courthouse and it was built around 1839. However, the courthouse was set afire by a retreating Colonel of the Confederate Army leading to the spread of the fire throughout the town and the destruction of nearly every home and building. a reconstruction of the town was undertaken after the Civil War but the county seat was moved to Athens. Around 1869, after the theft of the county court records by several Princeton residents an election over the issue was resolved in Princeton's favor. The new Chuck Mathena Center is the site of cultural, educational, and theatrical events. These include concerts by musical groups and dance recitals. The center also serves as a place for community events.
