| About the area |
The Carskadon Mansion on Radical Hill was the home of a Mineral County farmer and political leader of great influence. He was a member of the 1862-1863 Convention that framed the Constitution of West Virginia. He also served as Assistant United States Assessor and patented items and wrote articles thast were of great significance in agriculture. Through the efforts of the the Mineral County Historical Foundation and funding from various sources the home has been restored. The city changed hands fourteen times as the North and the South fought over it during the Civil War. Fort Fuller, which was located where Potomac State College now stands, and a series of forts surrounding the city protected it.
