Crossett District Court

Crossett owes its beginning to the cold reception four entrepreneurs received when they tried to build a Crossett Lumber Company mill in Hamburg. They then selected a site about 12 miles southeast of Hamburg and erected a tent city to build the company's mill there. The lumber produced from the initial milling operations was used in building a permanent mill, company offices and employee housing. Crossett remained in this state where Crossett Lumber owned all the town's homes and businesses until 1946. Georgia-Pacific Corporation purchased Crossett Lumber around 1962 and maintains a large manufacturing complex in Crossett. One of the original three-room "mill houses" sits in Crossett City Park and has been decorated to appear as it would have in the 1930's. The Crossland Zoo and a full-size, handmade replica of the Wiggins Cabin, circa 1830's are also located in the park. The Zoo has several animals native to the area including deer, raccoons, coyotes, owls and ducks as well as bears, peacocks, alligators, pot belly pigs and long horn steer. The Petting Zoo is a great place to bring the kids. Casual fisherman can try there hand at the pond located in this park.
