About the area
Fort Bissell was built in a hurry in 1873 when word came that the Apaches would soon attack. However, the attack never materialized and now the fort is located in a Phillipsburg park as the Fort Bissell Museum. Although the fort was torn town when it was no longer needed; all of the buildings in the complex are originally from Phillips County. They are from the Woodruff area, Northwest of Logan and Northwest of Phillipsburg and were moved to the site. The depot came from Glade and now houses railroad memorabilia. Some exciting annual events take place in this town. The Riverless Festival is held the first weekend in June, the Phillips County Fair takes place the last week of July, just before Kansas' Biggest Rodeo on the first Saturday of August.
