| About the area |
The grandson of an early settler to the area, plotted the town around the general store owned by his father around 1870. Not until the 1970's was the town incorporated. The train depot that existed here presented a strange situation. The depot, which was called the Hibernia Station, was located on the North side of the Missouri River across from Jefferson City. The Hibernia citizens got on the train on the East side of the tracks and the Holts Summit citizens got on the train on the West side of the tracks. This problem disappeared in the 1930's when the depot and the tracks were torn down. Holts Summit has recently developed a park and added recreational features by the purchased of an area by the city. The new park has playground equipment, a pavilion, a walking trail, BBQ pits, picnic tables, benches and a full size basketball court. The acquired facilities include ball fields, a pavilion, a civic building, volley ball courts, and a fishing pond.
