| About the area |
A structure no longer in use, built in the 1920's and on the National Register of Historic Places is still standing North of Galena. It is the Galena "Y" Bridge, built in the mid 1920's, formed and poured on this site using sand and gravel from the river below and other materials from the area. The configuration was used to accommodate the curve in old highway 43. It was used for fifty-nine years then closed to traffic when a modern, wider bridge was built to replace it. A park is now also located at the site. |
