Kimberling City owes its existence to the construction of Table Rock Dam and Reservoir by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. There is now a bridge at Kimberling City carrying Highway 13 over the lake created by the reservoir. The city was named for the family who for many years operated a ferry just about where Highway 13 is located and it was incorporated in the Summer of 1943. The annual Fireworks Celebration, called Fire Burst, is held on the last weekend before or on the Fourth of July.
