About the area

Organized around 1863 and named for General Ulysses S. Grant, it became the county seat one year later. In the early 1880's the railroad arrived in the town and was a boost to the economy. By around 1945 the railroad closed but the economy did not falter. The city's sports complex, in addition to being the location of the city pool and skating rink, is also the site of the city park, which has playground equipment, a sand volleyball court, a baseball and softball field, a new walking trail and the Worth County Fairgrounds. The municipal golf course is also located at this site. There is a nice area around the Worth County Lake; a pristine and quiet conservation site, complete with a boating ramp.
