| About the area |
The earliest settlers to the area came around 1820. Soon many settlers from Virginia and the Carolinas
followed and around 1840 a gristmill was established in the city. At the beginning of the 20th century it was incorporated as a village and continued to grow. Today the population numbers around 4300. The city now has 3 facilities for recreation and for people to meet; the Sportsplex, the Magee Community center and the Civic center.
The Sportsplex has facilities for baseball, softball and football.
