| About the area |
With the establishment of the first railroad operation in the 1890's and the location of its depot in Drew; the city began to grow as a trading center. After the railroad and the construction of public roads, the lumbering industry became the major player in the economy of the community. Saw mills and logging camps were developed all around the town. Many residents moving to the town were now the itinerant rowdy logging people. However, many stayed on when logging was no longer a factor and entered other businesses and contributed to the life of the town. Drew is now the home of Mississippi Delta Community college. |
