Sanders County Court is formally known as Sanders County District Court. Thompson Falls Justice Court (Phone No. 406-827-6941, Fax 827-6987) is located in the same building and uses the same mailing address. Both courts are in the Twentieth judicial district of Montana. The Justice court handles civic and traffic infraction occurring throughout Sanders county except those occurring within the city limits of Thompson Falls, Plains and Hot Springs. SR 200 runs in the Mountainous regions of Sanders county and meets SR 28 below Plains and SR 35 near Quinns.

Sanders County was formed around 1905 and named for a pioneer and U.S. Senator from Montana. You can do almost anything that involves the outdoors at Thompson Falls State park. From its campground located on the Clark Fork river you can venture out for fishing, nature walks, swimming, boating, wildlife viewing and bird watching. There's a boat launch, grills, fire rings and a picnic shelter available here. There are also some great views of the Thompson Falls dam from the PPL island park which has a picnic area and walking and biking trails which will get you to the restored historic High Bridge..
