Sherwood was founded around 1904. On May 30of 1942; the American Legion of Sherwood along with the Canadian Legion did an unusual thing. They met at the border with Canada, crossed over and followed the Canadian Legion for some distance and then with Canadian bagpipes leading the way both groups crossed over the border into the United States to demonstrate how two nations have learned to live in peace and harmony. The city park has a ballfield and open space and welcomes campers with its access to electricity and running water.
