The Walter Gerrells Performing Arts and Exhibition Center is the site of concert performances by individual artists and groups including the New Mexico Symphony orchestra. The center also includes an exhibition and banquet hall. The Sitting Bull Falls Recreation area, near Carlsbad, has as its centerpiece a waterfall of close to 150 feet in height. The Civilian Conservation Corps developed this area in the 1930's. It is open for day use only and is fully wheelchair accessible with sidewalks, pavilions, picnic tables, rock cabanas and a viewing deck for the waterfall. Unfortunately the area is temporarily closed to repair damage from flooding.
