Elgin existed as a trading area since the latter part of the 19th century. The first two buildings constructed in this area were a fort and a hotel. While you are in Elgin take a scenic ride on the Eagle Cap Excursion Train which goes from Elgin to Joseph; passing through Wallowa and Enterprise on the way. Thsi rail system is owned by the governments of Wallowa and Union Counties and operated by the Wallowa Union Railroad Authority. You are in good hands when riding on this train; since it is staffed by the professional train crew of the Wallowa Union Railroad and volunteers. Elgin has a new RV park, Hu-Nu-Ha RV park, where full hook-ups, showers, a laundry and boat launches are available. |
