About the area

The Historic Carroll County courthouse, which was built between 1872 and 1874, is the home of the Carroll County Historical museum. The exhibits here include early Native American artifacts recovered from nearby archaeological site and an extensive Civil War collection including a drum used by the local unit of the Confederate army. The site of the Old Jailhouse, which was in use from about 1866 to 1938, is now marked by an outline of its footprint with paving brick. Its location is now called Jail House Square" where an outdoor stage is the scene of outdoor concerts. On the backs of several of the vintage buildings in Hillsville you can seen murals depicting life in this town around 1912.
