| About the area |
Mount Vernon is the gateway to Skagit County. Fitting to a premier city of the county; each August the Skagit County Fair and Rodeo is held here. This is a four day event replete with entertainment, contests and rodeo competitions. The tulips you see at many of your local festivals may very well have come from here. An important part of the economy is the Tulip bulb industry and the Washington Bulb Company known throughout the world is headquartered here. To celebrate the significance of this industry; a month long Tulip festival is held here each April.
