For many years Philippi has been designated an "All West Virginia Community" by the state Chamber of Commerce. Philippi is home to Alderson-Broaddus College, a four-year liberal arts college which is more than 140 years old. The college offers Bachelors degrees in such diverse subjects as Accounting, Chemistry, Education and Mathematics as well the Associates degree in fields such as Music, Natural Science and Computer Science. The Graduate division awards the Master of Science in Physicians Assistant degree.
