Each September, for 3 days, Charles Town holds its annual Heritage festival. In addition to the musical groups and choirs providing live musical entertainment there is a Civil War reenactment. Many activities also provide entertainment for festival attendees such as a Farmers market, Farm to Fork workshop and a Heritage Quest Scavenger hunt. Other things to see and take part in are the Parade of Horses, tours and open houses and the anniversary celebration with cupcakes. As usual there is a craft fair and lots of good food. Artifacts from the early Native Americans up to World War II including exhibits of Civil War relics and uniforms, fine silver and china, photographs, antique dolls and toys, engravings and other historical items can be found in the Jefferson County Museum. Admission to the museum is free during the Heritage festival.
