SR 16 runs into and becomes Main street in Sophia. Coalfields Expressway SR 120 is located a little bit to the North of the town and can reached by taking the Robert C. Byrd Drive North. |
| About the area |
Sophia was incorporated in the second decade of the 20th century. It had the benefit of nearby railroads and Winding Gulf Coal Field. As a result it was the commercial center for this region and its main street was lined with large shade trees. Unfortunately the trees were topped and much of the businesses have been lost. However the city still remains a viable residential community. If you travel a small distance South on Roue 16 you can get to the Burning Rock Outdoor Adventure Park which is an off road trails adventure park where you can ride an ATV, UTV or dirt bike on their 100 miles of off road trails. |
