About the area

The Beauchamp Newman Museum is housed in the oldest brick building in Elizabeth and is known as the “Old Red Brick”. There is a wealth of items reflecting the early history of Wirt county in this museum. You will find many county artifacts and period furniture among the exhibits. The original desk of the museum's builder and his wife's piano can be found in the parlor room. The upstairs bedrooms have displayed a cradle, a rope bed, an unusual copper walk-in bathtub, and an oval floor mirror. The kitchen from an early period holds utensils, cupboards and dishware.
