| About the area |
Pineville first took shape on the land owned by a descendant of one of the early settlers to the area. When the town was incorporated by the West Virginia state legislature early in 1871, it was known as Rock View.
However when a post office was reestablished in the town around 1880, it was discovered that the name was already being used by another town and it was renamed Pineville, a name is derived from a large pine forest that existed on the site at that time. The Wyoming County Career and Technical center is a public high school whose main objective is to prepare students for college programs in science and technology and careers in the different vocations or technical trades. |
