Mentone sits on Lookout Mountain which provides unhindered views of the surrounding Alabama landscape. Just to the North of Mentone lies DeSoto State Park; named for the Spanish explorer
Hernando de Soto. Here you will find miles of hiking trails, beautiful bluffs and rock formations, a
number of small waterfalls, camping and picnic areas, log cabins, rustic cabins, chalets, a lodge and hotel, restaurant, country store, swimming pool and playgrounds. If you want to see one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the South; go to Lookout Mountain Parkway, where the West fork of the Little river plunges off a 100-foot Lookout Mountain cliff producing the DeSoto Falls. A walk down concrete stairs to the overlook will give you a view of the lower or main waterfall.
