About the area

The Lakeport Plantation is the only remaining Arkansas plantation located along the Mississippi River which still looks the way it did when first built. The modified Greek Revival antebellum house has been restored as a museum with exhibits reflective of plantation life in the Mississippi River Delta, focusing on the Antebellum, Civil War and Reconstruction periods. The Plantation has remained in continuous cotton production since the 1830' and is operated as a museum and educational center by Arkansas State University. The Lakeport Plantation house is on the National Historic Register and is designated as an official project of the Save America’s Treasures program.
