Marion was founded around 1860 when settlers in five covered wagons decided on the area and built rudimentary dwellings. Approximately two years later, a post office was established in the town which was the called Marion Centre. After the Civil War the first stone building was erected in town. Marion Historical Museum is the place to see exhibits displaying artifacts of early day life and Indian artifacts uncovered from archaeological digs around the city and the Marion Country Club is the place to enjoy a round of golf on their nine hole golf course and later take in a swim in the pool at the club.
