South Hutchinson Municipal Court

US 50 runs right beneath South Huchinson and meets SR 96 in that area.

Around 1886, the Inter-State Investment Company was organized by one of the early settlers and purchased over 250 acres of land south of the river then obtained a state charter for South Hutchinson, Kansas. About a year later a large population boom led to the incoporation of the town. A search for oil by the organizer of the town company led to the discovery of salt. The salt industry is significant to the economy of South Huchinson. At the Historical Salt Discovery site you can see an example of the large salt rocks that are common to area mines. This is the spot where salt was first discovered in the area and view the original uncovered well.
