In case you're confused, this place used to be officially named the Township of Dover, since the 1760s. They changed the official name in 2006, mainly because everyone called it Toms River anyway. Locals blame the post office. Those poor mail carriers get blamed for everything. Next thing you know they'll be on the hook for the Iraq war and global warming.

Toms River township is home to nearly 90,000 people. Garden State Parkway, US Rt 9 and Route 37 pass through the township. Toms River Country Club and Park are in the township. Toms River Cincinnati Chemical Corporation is in the region too. Malls such as Ocean County Mall, Dover Mall etc and museums such as Vintage Automobile Museum, Waterhouse Musuem, Ocean County Historical Museum etc find a presence in the township. The township also has many hospitals - Community Medical Center, HealthSouth Hospital, Meridian Occupational and Children's Specialized Hospital are all in Toms River Township.
