Judge Clute's appointment was controversial as she is a Democrat and was appointed by a Republican mayor. Apparently law enforcement was not happy at the time, though they've probably adjusted by now.

Plattsburgh is the largest city in northern New York. Being as close to the border of Canada as it is, Plattsburgh hosts a large number of 'weekend tourists' who come from Vermont and Canada to shop at the local mall and Walmart. The Battle of Plattsburgh and Mayor's Cup festivals are popular events in the summer.
