Sacket's a fine attorney and a gentleman. He has a good relationship with the Court. Unlike many DAs, Sacket doesn't just rely on assistants. He shows up to court and prosecutes many cases himself.
About the area
Of the 4 stories concerning the naming of "Cobleskill" the only agreement is that "kill" is Dutch for "creek". Whether originally "Koebell's" (a miller), "Cow-bell" (for the herds grazed there), "Cobble" (for the small stones in the creek, and still the most common mispronounciation) or "Cobus" (an old Indian who lived near the stream - supported by a 1728 document) remains a vibrant village of shops, cafes, & the Park Theatre. During the last quarter of the 1800's, Cobleskill became a fashionable place to spend the "heated term", being a pleasant town, "free of malaria". As "taking the waters" of Saratoga and Sharon Springs became fashionable, a local resident developed a small sulphur spring and built a boarding house, just south of the village, on what is still known as Mineral Springs Rd. Which just happens to be the location of the Village Court. Conveniently close to I-88. When the Schoharie County Courthouse burned down in 1846, the village of Cobleskill tried to have the county courthouse - as well as the county seat - moved to Cobleskill. The proposal failed. Instead, they got the county's agricultural fair (Cobleskill Sunshine Fair) and a State University. Not a bad trade off.

Apr 28 2009 23:08:06: I feel like the lawyers don't take anything seriously and they laugh and joke when clients are waiting to face the judge. It is extremely unprofessional and I am very disappointed by their behavior.
Feb 16 2008 06:39:21: DA Jim Sacket is a very honorable man and a gentleman. He talked to me on a personal and professional level. It was a pleasure to meet him. The village of Cobleskill is very lucky to have such an outstanding man for a district attorney. Respectfully, Chris Grady
