| Comments | Judge Hromyak has presided over District 05-2-06 for nearly ten years. Word is: he isn`t getting any softer as the years pass. |
| About the area | The Court covers Penn Hills Township and the Borough of Verona. Most residential streets are lined with tall luxuriant trees; literally right on the edge the road, one after another. So take your eyes off the road and you'll find yourself "stumped." Another caution: many back roads leading into Verona slope for a good bit, making it easy to pick up too much speed, then shoot into sharp bends. Parkway East/376 lies just south of Penn Hills at point where speed traps are set. Within Penn Hills, Allegheny River Blvd/Rt. 8 leads into Homewood, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Western Pennsylvania. As for crime: Penn Hills has been dealing with a steady rise in murders and various robberies. However, the crime index remains under the national average. It has sparked much debate over whether the area is safe or not. Growing businesses and long-time citizens are fighting to preserve the image of Penn Hills. But complicating matters, race is intricately tied into the issue due to a growing African-American population, most of which earn middle-class salaries. Even though Verona isn`t directly affected by the issues in Penn Hills, neighbors have come together to create the Verona Community Action Group in an attempt to prevent crime from spreading outward. We all wish peace and tolerance in one of Pittsburgh`s finest and most historic areas! |
