Lancaster became the home of the one and only first "stone" of Foot Locker stores back in the late 19th century, when Mr. Winfield decided to venture into a successful but risky business back in those days. This was one of the first commercial steps of this community but it was not followed by other companies. Today this territory suffers the strike of a very high unemployment numbers. Several projects and strategies have been falling in place since the last years of the 20th century to rebuild and protect the economy of this municipality and project a new touristic image more attractive to visitors. Those plans included the reconstruction of a very well known hotel and providing "recreational areas" for the Franklin & Marshall College.
