About the area

All things maritime are the focus of the Point Pleasant River Museum which displays exhibits concerning river life and commercial enterprise on the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers. There are ongoing video demonstrations and guest speakers which show and tell the history of floods, boat construction, sternwheel steamers and river disasters. Other presentations deal with the local river industry's contribution to World War II. You can try your hand at steering a "ship" at the working pilot house and be sure to see the museum's beautiful new aquarium.
