| About the area |
From an area about 1400 acres in size, first claimed by a settler in the early 1770's, and sold by his daughter as six tracts of land to later settlers in the early part of the 19th century; came the town of New Martinsville. The Wetzel County Historical Society's museum on Main Street is also the home of the Wetzel County Convention and Visitor's Bureau which maintains the museum and is continuing its renovation of the building to restore it to how it looked in the 1900s when it was first built. While you are in town pay a visit to the Howell Grist Mill on State Route 7. |
