It is believed that Mantua got it's name from the Mantua white Oak Trees that are found in abundance in this region. Main Street is a major thoroughfare through this town of 14300 people and houses the Municipal Court, the Police Department, and the J. Mason Tomlin Elementary School in addition to two public parks - Chestnut Branch Park and Ceres Park that are nearly 3 miles apart. The Mantua Township Historical Commission has in it's possession a 120 year old bell which is now a part of Union St. School House.
